Once every two years, each of the four mirrors of the largest telescope of the world must be clean and re-coated with bare aluminum. This is the most delicate operation that ESO Paranal Observatory engineers have to perform. It takes about a week to dismount, transport, clean and coat the 8.2 m diameter and 23 Tons of glass mirror. At that date, the observatory has made it 28 times over the last 10 years.
